0 Why Love a Romper? Tips for Choosing and Wearing Fashion's Beloved One-Piece

Since re-emerging in 2006 as a hot trend, rompers have been seen on celebrities such as Cameron Diaz, Blake Lively, and Mischa Barton - just to name a few. However, the romper had much humbler origins. The romper actually started off as playwear for younger children in the 1900's. In France, rompers were primarily seen on boys. By the 1950's, rompers finally became fashionable leisure and beach wear for women. Now, the romper is an easy to wear piece that has won over the hearts of fashion-forward women world wide.
Rompers Vs. Dresses
Rompers are great for someone who wants to pull off a dressier look without actually having to wear a dress. Both are one piece which is ideal for the woman on the go, but rompers allow you all the conveniences of shorts. Bending over or windy days are not a concern for the romper-wearing woman. The only disadvantage of wearing a romper is that you have to undress entirely when using the restroom.
Versatility
The playful one-piece can easily go from day to night. During the day, throw on your romper with a cardigan and a pair of cute wedged shoes. On the way to dinner with the bf or drinks with the girls, lose the cardigan and shoes. Pair with a nude heel and accessorize with some sparkling bangles and over-sized earrings. (Side Note: Nude heels will help elongate the appearance of your legs.) Just touch up your make up and you're ready to rock!
When Choosing Your Romper
Rompers are meant to be comfortable, so stay away from anything too tight. Also, length is extremely important. You don't want all of your assets hanging out from the hemline (or the neckline for that matter). The look you want to achieve is sophistication.
Styling Ideas
Wear your romper belted. This helps to accentuate your waist and breakdown the playful factor of the garment.
Layer with a cardigan, shrug, or long jacket. The extra layer adds a little polish to the look.
Throw a loosely fitting top or off-the-shoulder sweater over your romper. It'll look like your wearing shorts and be great for a casual lunch.
Wear under a high-waisted skirt. The romper will give you the benefits of wearing shorts and you won't have to worry about a blouse becoming un-tucked! And after you're done at the office, slip off the skirt for some shopping with your friends!
Wear appropriate footwear. As you recall, the garment itself has very "playful" beginnings, so grown up or sophisticated footwear is a requirement as well. Pair with wedges or heels and if you love flats, go with a flat that is dressier in appearance and one that lacks more than two playful design details. Flip flops or "slippers" as they are more commonly known in the islands are great if you're wearing your romper as a cover up to the beach!
